Starting issues

I'm having some starting issues with my 1995 Lumina. It's hard to start, and when it does, it idles really fast for about fifteen to twenty seconds, and then goes back to normal. Any ideas what's wrong, and / or how to fix it. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Starting issues

What happens if you give it a small amount of throttle as you start it?

Is this only cold-start, or always?

Re: Starting issues

I believe Jeff is leaning towards an IAC problem, and if a small amount of throttle helps, then he's right (he normally is). It could also be a stuck EGR valve. We'll narrow it down if you can be more specific.

Re: Starting issues

I usually don't have to give it gas for it to start. Usually, I let go of the key a little bit early, and it kinda catches up and starts.

Sometimes it'll start just fine, but other times, I have this problem.

I'll try giving it a little bit of gas next time.

Ok, I am going to go on this EGR valve problem. I was wondering where the EGR valve is, how hard it is to get it off, and if I can clean it, and see if that works.

Any help is appreciated...thanks.
