1994 bmw engine

Does anyone have any info on faulty engines in the 1994 740iL. I just bought this car and the idle is low. My mechanic says a possible bad engine OR the O ring wasn't sealed properly on the oil change and oil has leaked into the valves and plugs causing this problem with the idle.

Assuming you are in the United States, your motor may have been affected by the high sulfur gasoline in the states. I will spare you the boring details, however this problem should have been adressed years ago since your car is a 1994 model. Should you ave this problem and your cylinder walls have eroded you will simply need a new engine block. But first look at the simple things. The car being as old as it is the ruber hoses and boots are probably rock hard by now. Some may have cracked causing a vacum leak. Follow the intake boot aft of the mass air-flow sensor to the throttle body. Squeeze it! It should feel soft and you should not see any cracks. Valve covers may have cracked, intake manifold gaskets may have leaks. And this is just a few tests of one of many systems around the motor. Now can someone explain to me how oil filter seals can affect valves?

Thanks for your suggestions. I don't know why he said the oil filter seals can affect the valves. However, it turns out it was the spark plugs.
