i'd like to swap my engine
hey, i have a 97 mercury tracer 2.0L (same thing as the ford escort)
it has 125,000 miles on it and i'd like to swap the engine and get one with low mileage. i cant really seem to find many engines online. the ones i do find are like $2,500! and im not sure what im buying. i want to know if its all i need. i just want to buy a complete engine for it and go to a shop that can swap them out for me. about what kind of price range am i looking at? i dont want to buy something and realize i need more to go with it. thanks for any help you can offer this is something i've wanted to do for quite awhile now. im planning on putting performace parts on this car but i dont want to burn up the engine. thanks |

Re: i'd like to swap my engine
125k isnt bad on an SPI
if you really wanna do a swap look into swapping in a 2.0 Zetec from a ZX2, or just drop in a new 2.0 SPI |

Re: i'd like to swap my engine
If it's not burning oil, or giving you problems, why change it? And getting a crate engine for an Escort is never cheap. I'm not entirely sure about the SPI, but for a 1.9 it costs upwards of 1500 bucks for a longblock. If you go with Jasper, prepare to get the vaseline out and pay over 2200 bucks for the complete, OEM spec'd engine. If you really had to replace it, just rebuild the thing, bore it lightly, and mill the head. It'll provide a decent boost, especially in the low end.
