Installing lock cylinder/ignition...Help

Hi,

The key broke off in my 1992 CV ignition and will not come out, so I went and picked up another lock cylinder at a used auto parts store.

Can anyone tell me how to install it step by step, including how to remove the plastic coverings that go around the base of the steering wheel without breaking it?...

Thanks

Any advice is welcome.

If you can use the broken key to turn the ignition to "on" position, there is a small hole that you can insert a small screwdriver in to release the lock pin. Then the lock cylinder will pull out.

Re: Installing lock cylinder/ignition...Help

So, I don't have to remove the plastic from the wheel at all?...Should I disconnect the battery before I do anything?...What position should the new lock cylinder be in when I insert it?...On or off???

Thanks

You don't need to do anything. The new cylinder needs to be in the "on" position. Slide it is, turn it to lock, remove key and the cylinder will lock in place.

Re: Installing lock cylinder/ignition...Help

It worked, had a bit of fooling for a few minutes, but it went in pretty smoothly.

Thanks for your help
