Question Transmission ?

My 2000 Durango feels like it keeps shifting back and forth from 3rd to 4th while driving at highway speeds. It does this with or without cruise control. No check engine light. Any help?

your right in the speed area where it keeps hunting for gears. try going faster or slower and see if it still does it

Re: Transmission ?

This is a common problem with Durangos with 3.55 rear end gears. If you continue to drive this way, the transmission will fail because the 3-4 4-3 shifting will wear it out. You can press the OD off button and drive mostly in 3rd. You can change the gears, a lot of people put in 4.10s or even 4.56s. You can try running smaller diameter tires. You can do some engine mods to increase the amount of power in the low RPM range (doesn't work with 4.7l, too weak to start with)to be able to stay in OD at highway speed. You can try any of the above together in combination until you are satisfied with the result.
