1989 S-Blazer Bellhousing Bolts

Hello,

I'm replacing the flexplate in my Blazer - 1989, 4.3, 4x4.

I need to know if there's any trick to getting to the bellhousing bolts all the way around. I cannot drop the exhaust; the bolts are too rusted even for any of the liquid wrenches out there.

It looks like a Chevy SB but waaay tighter.

Thanks,

Josh <><

You'll probably have to remove the bolts going through the motor mounts and tip the motor either up or more likely down for the top ones.

You can use a jack under the oil pan, or harmonic balancer for this. You'll need a nice plank between the jack and the oil pan or it'll go through

Re: 1989 S-Blazer Bellhousing Bolts

Thank you. I'm actually having trouble getting to all of them as my hands are not very skinny, but I'll take a looksee at the motor mounts. I was just going to manipulate the rubber using the tranny and the jack, but the jack under the oilpan may indeed be better.

Thank you, and I'm still open for suggestion on the other four guys!

Thanks,

Josh <><

Re: 1989 S-Blazer Bellhousing Bolts

use very long extentions 2-4 feet long. use a swivel socket, which is a socket with a u-joint built in. reach the socket/extention in from way back along side of tranny for the bottom 4 bolts.
the top 2 bolts are difficult. Some people drop back of tranny down low and jack up front of engine and then stick the long extentions up on top of tranny. Some can get them with a box-end wrench from the top. Another trick to reach the top bolts is to pull back the carpet and drill a hole through the floorboards to stick a socket through from inside. One is right behind the gas pedal and other is on the passenger side floor. If you do this , seal it well with high temp RTV and small metal platesover the hole.
