My car is giving Vibrations when I start the engine. But it is not persistent..It will disapper after some time...But it is not always only some times...is it because I ran the car till the gas is almost empty in the tank couple of times...any experiences would be appreciated...

Post Re: BMW 740 IL series 1996

We experienced a terrible vibration with our 1996 740iL sometimes when we first started the car. When we checked with our service garage, we were told that this would occur with a BMW when the car is started and only run for a VERY short time, such as to just move it into the garage and then shut off the engine. We were told to let the engine run for at least 5 minutes to let it warm up before shutting it off again. Since we started doing this, we have no longer had this issue. I don't know if this is similar to your issue, but it worked for us! Good luck!

I have had this happen a few times with my 96 740 IL.I shut it off restart a couple times and it goes away.I presume it' is nothing more than every once in awhile find a nice stretch of highway and open her up.Get the carbon off the plugs.Good luck............

Re: BMW 740 IL series 1996

it may be a bad engine the first bmw v8 were in thes years and the cyl walls can deteriorate and caue them to run like shit. if it runns fine at all other times i would just let it go unles it becomes a bigger problem it was with the nickasil blocks take it to a bmw dealer and have them run a DCS sheet and see if that recall has been performed and they should be able to help you just pulling the sheet the better not charge you all you need is last 7 of vin.
