Unhappy 1991 ford explorer gas gauge

i have a 1991 ford explorer eddie bauer edition 4.0 the gas and temp gauges do not work i don't think it is the float but i could be wrong i removed the instrument panel to see if the wires are loose but i cannot remove the middle panel i don't know how is there anyway to test the gauges to see if the gauges are bad i really need help i cannot see how much gas i have any help would be great. thanks

i fixed the problem it was the float in the sending unit i droped the tank and removed the float it was full of gas took out the gas and soldered the crack in the float.
