Question Intake manifold please help

Crown vic 1996 100.000kilometers (60,000miles) my upper intake manifold (made in cheap plastic), just blow out, in front. just behind the alternator.
My question is it is possible to repair this with Epoxy, or other ????
I was thinking of a mix of fiberglass. Could anyone help? i call the dealer and ther asking 1000.00$ for upper intake manifold.

Re: Intake manifold please help

No, it cannot be repaired.

Ford is not the only manufacturer to use a resin intake, and to run coolant thru it and have failures. They ARE the only ones to have stopped.

$1000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!! They're frickin CRAZY!!!!

RUN! Call another dealer. The intake kits are about $250, and they are EASY to replace, like under 2.5 hours.

Re: Intake manifold please help

Don't even think of repairing it!

Lousy design.

Ford has a replacement manifold that uses an aluminum manifold to carry the coolant, the rest of it is still plastic. No where near $1000. Maybe they quoted you the price for parts and labor to replace the manifold(still insanely high).

Re: Intake manifold please help

i replaced one on my dads 99 grand marquis, PAIN IN THE ASS!!! i heard from somewhere on this site that Ford is recalling the cracked manifolds near where the thermostat is. if i would o knew that, i would of picked up one, instead of getting another plastic one. i thought the had plastic in 98-present. my mom has a 94 p71 and it has an alluminum one. ehh, well just look on the site about the manifold recall thing, it will save you time, and lots of aggervation.

Re: Intake manifold please help

The "recall" applies for 7years, unlimited miles. His '96 would no longer quality due to time. Also, it only applies to the cars with "P71/72" in the vin or Lincols with "limo prep".

As far as I know there has only been a recall by Ford for the intakes on police and taxi vehicals. Ford updated the intake design for 2002 model year to have an aluminum coolant passage instead of the plastic.

cheers

Is it a fact about the 7 years? I just changed one on my 97 CVPI. I am looking for a replacement, to keep for a spare. Also what site has the recall info?

Re: Intake manifold please help

Yes, 7years unlimited mileage.

The recall is posted a few times at www.crownvic.net in the "4.6Tech" and 4.6 Archieve" sections.

Did you get the intake with the aluminum crossover?? If so, you will not need a spare.

Re: Intake manifold please help

OIC. There has been a few decent deals on ebay for the aluminum crossover intake. Ive thought about getting one of those for my 1999, as it has been replaces, but not with the alum. crossover.

Re: Intake manifold please help

I tried to fix mine with JB Weld, worked for 2 mins... The problem is the alt brace is pulling on that manifold.. that is were the crack comes from.. I bought mine from Ford.. I also called ford corp to check on a call back and they ran my vin and said no.. BUT told me to hold onto my receipt in case one does happen and I could then turn that bill in and get my money.. The last thing I want to tell you is I have a friend that works at Advanced Auto Parts and he told me that they have a replacement part for that... It was too late so I never followed up on it but if you didn't buy it, give them a call or anther major parts store... The job is very easy to do... and if you don't have the tool to remove the fuel lines, you can just leave it hooked to the rail and lift the whole rail out of the way.... I suggest you buy all new injecter o-rings..... good luck

I've had the same trouble with my 1997 CV & couldn't fix it with epoxy. Found a used (manifold) with the alluminum coolent passage ,I replaced the old plastic one with a new pair of gaskets but i couldnt have my car to idle smoothly as it was without finding the real cause & i'm still working on that. Is it a leake or somthing else. It is realy (pain in the a...) .

Re: Intake manifold please help

The 7 year warranty is for Police, Taxi, and Limo only. You have to prove the vehicle is still in that use.
