Timing belt

Does it matter what kind of timing belt i get? it is time to change the timing belt, and i dont wanna pay a rediculous price at the dealer, and i doubt that my mechanic will be using the oem belt. is the aftermarket belt not as good as the oem? or is a belt a belt? also an after market water pump is better than oem right? i heard vw uses aluminum instead of metal on there water pumps.

Re: Timing belt

Yes, it matters. Yes the VW belt is better. Oh, and aluminum is metal... vw uses plastic on their water pumps.
