Tamiya R34 GT-R Z-Tune (in progress) 56K beware!! PICTURES ARE IN
Hey guys, Long time not see... I can't remember when the last time I was on the forum. But as a comeback, my friend got me a Tamiya Nismo Z-Tune R34. So im half way done into it already. I also have bought the Photo etch kit like veryone else with the carpeting.
Its good to see Hiroboy and Honoturtle on the board... but where is Shorty... god, Shorty LOL that kid... good times! SO hi to everyone I have not met. I am another skyline fan like everyone in AF. I think I still am the only one with a Midnight Purple R33 in these waters. So get me back to the modeling grove guys, I saw your projects and Im PUMPED to be back. Pictures will come shortly once I figured out how to work my roomates camera and upload them to a server. I have forgotten how pictures work here? Can i use other picture servers? OR do I have to use AF photo uploader? (don't feel like going to the newbie bible =P. ANYWAYS to the Car... (reviews) Initial reaction to the car is it is a Tamiya R34 with minor changes to the exterior shell, as well as including a new tree of parts to use in conjuntion to create a Z-Tune R34. The Tamiya suppliment Photo Etch parts are very good too, brake converion, metal differential cooler, metal grill set for the front facia, FMIC metal cover, carpets, and even a metal exhaust tip. These parts are highly details and SHOULD not be missed by amature or professional modellers alike. They produce out of the box effects first to none. The car parts, fit very well as all tamiya kits. The body mold lines on this batch of R34 are a bit better than the previous R34s in their lineup. Everything is put in together well and there are no hard fitting pieces on the model. The spray TS-67... this is the mica paint that Tamiya recommends for the completion of this model. Looks nice when on the surface, but very very matt when dry. Polishing might have some problems, so TS-13 (clearcoat) should be applied on thereafter the paint. I usually lay down three light coats, seven medium coats, and three thick coats. Then proceed to clearcoat the car within 10 minutes of the last thick coat. Im a heavy polisher, so I need more paint so I don't go through on the paint into the plastic when I polish. **UPDATE** ON PHOTOS! so i got it running with my roomates camera... and here they are... please be gental to my feelings... its my first model in a long time. enjoy! ![]() here is a stand alone picture of the model as of its current state, headlights are painted and prefitted. and the body is polished out some. ![]() here is the backside of the model, rear lights also painted and prefitted. ![]() picture of the rear end of the undercarrige. Photo etched kit was put on with the normal build of the kit, as you can see exhaust tip and diff cooler is set in. ![]() front undercarrige. ![]() this photo shows the front brake disc and the painted headlights. The grill on the sides and front are all painted semi gloss black and installed. This picture also shows the paint and the polish process in the reflection. ![]() Interior picture of all the seats and carpet. I used a couple small mist of Dull Coat from Testors to recreate the texture in the leather seats. ![]() Interior picture looking at the steering wheel and the pedels underneath the dash. ![]() save the best for last. The model is polished to a good mirror finish using abraisve papers and tamiya compound. The whole car is pretty much in this condition. BUT had a hard time because the 34 has a lot of rough edges, compunding or sanding those areas not careful and you will go through the clear and paint.
