85 S-10 Racecar questions
I've raced dirt track cars since '93, and just traded for an 85 S-10 Stock Car with no engine. I'm limited to a 6 cyl., can be any size straight or v-6. I'm looking for an '85-86 carbed 4.3, cuz we have to run a manual fuel pump with no fuel inj. Having trouble finding one. Any other suggestions? Anyone have any suggestions for a good radiator? I use afco brand aluminum ones in my cars, but are way too wide for the S-10. The cars I'll be running against have "stock" v-8's, but racers like to bend the rules. They must weigh 3400 lbs. with driver. My truck will be allowed to weigh 200-300 lbs less, they haven't decided yet. Suspension is lowered 3 inches, with Afco Racing Springs. Rear springs look stock but have Afco stickers on them. How much weight do you think I'll have to add, I weigh 200 lbs? Glass and interior are removed, but all the roll bar tubing shoud bring the weight back close to stock. I'm in uncharted territory and will be the only S-10 racing with about 25 cars. Any help would be appreciated.
I'll have a pic of it soon that I'll post. |

Re: 85 S-10 Racecar questions
The 4.3L came out in the late 80's in the S10's, and was always fuel injected.
A 3.4L motor from a comaro will bolt right in using the 2.8L stuff, including the carburated manifold from the 2.8L It's probably your best choice for that application. Here's a couple of links http://s-series.org/module-htmlpages...1-print-1.html http://users.spec.net/home/emxjc/ http://www.off-road.com/jeep/cheroke...28-34swap.html http://home.earthlink.net/~micfly/matt.htm I haven't been on those sites in a while, so 1 or 2 links might be broken If you can't get a manifold let me know, and I'll see what I can do. But my spare carb is junk. |

There are some trucks here that run dirt. If it were me I would be in search of a buick v-6. We use a radiator from a full size truck in our s-10. Its from a 72 chevrolet, we had to fabricate a mount for the bottom to the frame, works great. You can alwways lighten the radiator support and inner door skins.
