getting at fuel pump-94 lhs
car wont start and im figuring its the fuel pump.the car has 160,000 miles on it and i dont hear it run when we turn on the key.just wondering if anybody has changed thiers, the book says there is a access panel underneath the carpeting in the trunk.i checked it out and come to find out theres a coating of what seems to be a tarlike substance over it,but it does look like theres a panel in there though.how do i go about taking this stuff off?any ideas-comments appreciated.

Re: getting at fuel pump-94 lhs
that tar-like material is basically a soundproofing coating that prevents squeeks and rattles. If you have clear access to the fuel pump assembly through the backseat, I'd strongly advise you replace it through there, much easier than the other method of removing the fuel tank.
