How too not use turps

Arrgh, I'm bloodly annoyed at the moment.

I've finally got into building my Civic model again, since i've been rather busy recently.

So i decided to fix the two rear wings (top and bottom), since when i sprayed them some dirt settled in the wet paint. Sanding them would of taken too long, so I tried Methylated Spirits, that kind of brought the paint off but far too slowly.

So my next brillant idea was to bring out the turpantime. Since this is what I use to clean brushes, and thin paints. So I filled a container of turps and left the wings to soak in it. The next few hours skipped my mind, and then part way through Enterprise tonight I remebered they were still in there.

So i went to check, and what had happend. The bottom wing had almost totally disolved. The Top might still be salvagble, I'm just letting it dry now. So tomorrow I've gotta try and fix it.

Anyone have any ideas on how to fix it up? its rather bubble and thin now.

Ouch!

All I can say is it serves you right for wasting your time watching a really bad American TV Show on a really cheap Australian TV channel broad cast over a local channel while a totaly orginal and very usefull and informative localy made show staring one of our most succesful Motorsport drivers was showing on a local channel.

New Zealand programing?

I don't think i've ever seen anything made here that is interesting. They are all either Reality tv shows, infomation shows, or bad dramas (ie TV ONE)

I'rd watch NZ tv if it was interesting.

In all honesty it probably wasnt as good as Enterprise, but it wasnt far behind, and I think it was a bit more interesting.
It was just an hour of Greg murphy telling people how to drive, with lots fo real life horror stories, people who feel asleep and hit trucks, crashed on space saver tyres etc. and lots of crash test footage.

So how badly damaged is the wing?
You might be able to rebuild it with putty, but often the Turps will never totaly dry out.
Its oil based, and the heavier compounds get left on and in the surface of the plastic. So even if you are able to reconstruct it, you will never get paint or putty to stick to it properly.

This might sound a bit harsh, but you might have to right it off to experiance, and try some thing else on the civic.

Well my plan too fix it is.

I'm just going to leave it too dry overnight, then I'm going to sand it down, to get as smoother surface as possible. Hopefully it will be fine then just a little skinney.

If not since i'm too lazy and poor to go get modelling putty, i could either built it up with bluetack (really budget), or make it out of plaster of paris.
Yes I do relise they are really bad ideas, but they may.... work

I would suggest that you go and buy one of those rear spoiler packs from fujimi.
But because you are on a tight budget the plaster of paris is a better idea because blutack most likely wont work.

ooouuuchhhh... man that hurts... so much trouble to get a part ready to paint and then when it gets dusty......

one of the best things to do in that case is to put the part in brake oil fluid (DOT 4 for example), i've done this once and the results were amazing, the paint just peeled of like an orange

cheers

Yeah next time i need to strip some paint, I'lll try something like Brake Fluid.

Oh one thing about the Fujimi wing packs, are there very common in hobby stores?

Since I'm 17 i don't have a credit card, and NZ is rather far away to order something from overseas.

Iv seen them around differnt shops. But you will have to do some hunting.
Since were so close to Japan (trade diplomacy wise) and have such a large Asian population we actualy get a better selection of Japanese Kits then the poor yanks do.
So they are out there.
And any of the model shops around Auckland will be able to order in any kit you ask for. It will of course cost a little more than odering it your self, but it does get around the CC problem.
The other alternative would be to ask one of your parents to use thiers, and then just give them the cash.
