sound simple?
Ok so I have decided that insurance will be cheaper to go with the Subaru Impreza instead of my 240. And since I can only afford the 93-95. I have decided to do this:
-Buy a 94' Subaru Impreza L AWD, that some guy is selling for 1400. - Buy a EJ20T for 800 and swap it. -performance internals? -Buy a sti wing, because the subaru imprezas are so god awfully ugly without a wing. - maybe in a while, buy a nicer front bumper? with step one and two im just looking to spend all together 2700ish, am I thinking right? I hear for the EJ20t in the ej18, its basically a clean swap, with just a new x-member? Someone please correct me if im wrong. Thanks. |

Re: sound simple?
You can't just drop the EJ20T in, aside from the X-member you already mentioned, there is also the transmission to change out.
If you're looking at a '95 Impreza, there are several variations of factory wing which look nice on them, the Prodrive wing is one of those. Front bumper is easy, you can get one off a '98 through 2001 RS which will fit on easily and look a lot better.

Re: sound simple?
No, the transmission doesn't come with the ENGINE, research would show you that most engines come with the flywheel mounted, but no gearbox and no drive shaft and differentials.
You could keep your tranny, but how long do you intend to keep it for? The 1.8l transmission isn't designed to take the torq load of the EJ20T.

Re: sound simple?
well, i didnt mean that the motor came hooked on the motor. ENGINE. I meant that i wouldnt be able to go to a salvage yard, and just pull both?
i want to keep the car for at least 2 years. I do plan on autocrossing it. what role would be played in that? |

Re: sound simple?
Have you considered what will be involved in putting a WRX engine and drivetrain into the '95 L though?
Like I mentioned before, do some research. Check out nasioc.com, I am sure they will be more than willing to guide you through the job ahead

Re: sound simple?
At a minimum, in addition to the engine and transmission, you are probably also going to need a new driveshaft, possibly custom, and possibly new halfshfts.
And then, there's the wiring. Depending on how many issues you run in to, you could easily spending more than $2700 on the wiring alone.
