Cool 98 lesabre need directions & pictures for replace intake gasket

I have become pretty proficient at fixing the 91 century but now need to replace this gasket on the 98 Lesabre. I am going the cheap route and only replacing the top plastic one for now. I have not done much with fuel injection. would like to know if there is a site that would give pictures of what needs to be taken off and how. I cant afford the shop price and am uncomfortable with getting into this without knowing what needs to be done. too many times I take things off that just add work or more trouble for me. I need a gasket right away local it is over $200 any sugestions for finding one as well?

I know lots of people have this problem with the stupid melting gasket. Dealer just told me mine has started small leak cause they looked inside the ? air chamber? I dont know what it is. you take off the air filter set up and open the the butterfly and can look in saw a little tiny bit of moisture on a pin/bolt something going through. They said it is antifreeze. Was hoping it would not occur for many more miles. Only has 66,000. There are posts talking of how easy it is but nothing mentions pictures things showing this is how it comes off etc.
Thanks for the help

Re: 98 lesabre need directions & pictures for replace intake gasket

Hello

Do a search on Ebay for the upper manifold. They're on there now and then. I would pick up a repair manual if you're digging this far in to the engine.

Regards

Dan

Re: 98 lesabre need directions & pictures for replace intake gasket

Get a Haynes manual for this car. Also, for prices, here is the lower for $63.48 (they'll ship it to your house):

I could not find the upper gasket (maybe it is an anaerobic gasket like Loctite 518).

Here is a product worth researching further:

Re: 98 lesabre need directions & pictures for replace intake gasket

I have a 97 that's leaked for years. Now it has 135,000 miles and it still leaks a little antifreeze from the upper intake. Never replaced it yet. Not saying you should not replace, many have gone bad. Just wanted to add my experience.

Also, my local library has all kinds of shop manuals. check yours if you have one near by.

Also I've read where some have replaced the upper, only to have the lower go out soon after. They where right there, just a little more, the first time. If you replace the upper only, then have the lower go out, can you afford to do the upper AGAIN and the lower?

Like I said, I'm not recommending you do a certain thing. I know how finances and life is. Just wanted to add anything I could to help. Chris.
