'89 PF auto tranny problems

slipping like crazy
seems to only have 1 & 2
tranny power light flashing
fluid level good

seems like it needs a tranny or rebuild, but i heard that there is some sort of module on top of the tranny that goes bad and may cause these same symptoms

any ideas or suggestions

Hi I was wondering if you ever got your trany problem solved,I seem to have the same problems,but mine does not even go in gear,its funny i thought i might have put this question up ,same name same car.

I lost all gears in the tranny on my 90. took the tranny pan off, cleaned it, replaced oil and filter and I'va had about 6K miles so far without problems. The first tranny shop wanted $2200 to rebuild. This option just seemed a little cheaper to try first.
