Help identify this engine.

I pulled this from a 1985 Jeep CJ7 with a T5 transmission. It is an I-6 that looks like the AMC 258. It cannot be a 258 because there is no place to mount a mechanical fuel pump and the block code has 7 digits. It is an AMC engine because is has the AMC logo stamped on it. The block code is 808MXII. I called 2 local jeep dealers and they have no info. What is this engine? Thanks, David.

some of those jeeps came out with a 232 I-6 instead of the 258, not sure on the numbers, etc thats on the block. i know I have ran into a few of them when i go looking for cj's. this might be what you have, but not for sure there....hope this helps

Did not all 232 and 258 engines made in the USA have mechanical fuel pumps?

Re: Help identify this engine.

Is your engine carbureated or has fuel injection, with the single-point injector in the throttle body?
