I've heard that if you flip your air cleaner lid upside down it increases your vehicles performance slightly. I'm just wondering if anybody has tried this and if it did actually make any difference? Also, has anybody tried the K&N X-Stream Air cleaner lid?... and what did they think of it?

lid flip?...
While I have never heard of getting an air cleaner flip and gaining any performance i have heard of other options. If you have a light truck where the cleaner is not on top of the heads to create the look of a carbeurated motor it will be down, away from the motor. If it is like this you can simply cut away the section of the plastic box facing away from the motor to bring in more and colder air. If it is on top of the block, I suggest creating your own ram air system if your willing to do it. Simply get a large enough hood scoop to bring in enough air and mold it in, not just tape it. With the scoop there permanently you want to cut a hole in the bottom of your hood under the hood scoop (hole will be unnoticable on a closed hood). This will bring air through the scoop to the top of your air filter. From there, remove your metal box from around the filter and get an old muscle car type filter with a metal cap over top (this cap will keep dirty air from getting into manifold) and fabricate a few mini bars if needed to keep it in place. Good luck and I hope you get the performance you desire.

Re: Flipping Air Cleaner Lid
Flipping the air cleaner lid really does give a boost, at least on my '86 chevy pickup. But you need to be careful about going through mud or sand or places where dirt may get on the filter. If just drive on the street your probably ok, but just watch out about going off road.
