This is my first post and also the first time I've owned a GMC. This one has everything but I have a problem that the first dealer told me they couldn't duplicate. Ever since new, (I have 12,000mi. now) about once every two months, when I come to a stop, it seems like the transmission comes unengaged. When I accelarate to go, it slips for a second and then catches. I've read other posts about drive train problems, and this kind of scares me. This truck stickered at $42,000.00 and I shouldn't have to put of with these types of problems. Anyone else had the same? I'm taking it back in next week to another GMC dealer for this and a small laundry list of fixes including clunking sounds when shifting.

I know what you mean. My 91 does that too. There is way too much play in the rear end or maybe transmission but you do feel it. You are right,a new truck shouldn't act like an old one. Tell them to FIND the problem or they can buy it back!!

I have an '03 sierra and it does the same thing every once in awhile. You should check out the silverado forum. Everybody has this type problem. Seems it's some kinda torgue management built in. Does it clang or bang when it shifts 2 to 3? That's another problem the dealer say is normal. Gotta love the pride in building junk.

I doubt it's pride they have in building the crap, but more like they "graciously accept" the FACT! |

I dunno. Never have had that problem with my 04 Sierra 1500 4x4 so thinking it isn't built into *every* Sierra. *shrug*

Re: transmission slippage in 04 1500 sierra crew
I spoke with a few guys and asked the question: "Have you heard a little clang or bang when it shifts 2 to 3"? Most said no at first. Then I told them to turn the radio off and roll the window down. They did and went for a short ride. Low and behold, every so often they heard it. The way I hear it is, Yukons, Tahoes, Silverado, and sierra all have it. TM is built into all the gm trucks. It's supposed to stop tearing the tranny up on starts. like line locks.

Re: transmission slippage in 04 1500 sierra crew
Actually it's programed into the computer the way I understand. I'm sure you have drive by wire like 99.999% of us. Then you you have torque management. .5 second delay on throttle and if puter feels too much torque it'll hesitate. I should say most of the time.
