Changing belt!!! help

ok my lil bro busted a belt on his way home. I have no time to check it out right now and see what i can do. He broke the belt that drives the cooling fan/powersteering. Im going to change it tomorrow. I checked the fsm on the internet but it only really tells you how to check it lol(i quickly skimmed it, www.camel-towing.com) . Im guessing i loosen the power steering pully to reduce tension to put the new belt on??? Thats the only "nut" i found that does anything with the belts/pulleys(keep in mind i only looked at my belts on my car and thats all i really saw, i need sleep lol!!!). Then put the new belt on and then tighten the bitch down??? I havent really inspected it myself because 1) its pitch black and my flashlight seems to be missing 2) i have to get up at 5 AM to go to work. I get off at 4 so im going to fix it then. But i just want to know if anyone can give a quick explanation. First time changing a belt on a 240. Thanks guys. PLZ HELP lol. I want to get it done as fast as possible lol. So my friday night isnt wasted. Last night with the parents out of town too......

Re: Changing belt!!! help

im sure i could figure it out, but i only looked at my shit for about 5 minutes to get an idea of what to do lol. Oh well thanks again. I provided a link if anyone wants to look just incase i over-looked something. Right as im getting ready to go to bed (just got out of shower) he calls and says he's stranded and cars overheating and powersteering seems to be gone. So i went a took a look, told him belt was gone. let it cool for about 15 minutes, peg legged it to a home depot parking lot. And thats where ill fix it. Uncle said it shouldnt take long, but its my first time lol. ANy help is appreciated....thanx again.

yeah theres that adjusting bolt with another piece on it that you have to loosen a nut on i believe to move it one way or the other, but its pretty accesible (at least on s14) so it shouldnt be too bad.

Re: Changing belt!!! help

once you get the new one on, tension it until you can only move the belt about 1/2 " either way(up and down) with your fingers, if you tighten it up too much, the belt will die fast, and the bearings that are on the pulleys.

according to my chilton guide (s14) it says to depress the belt with 22 lbs of pressure and it should move about 1/2". good luck measureing that pressure haha. it shouldnt be that hard tho.

the bolt should be on the bottom side of the power steering unit...pretty easy...
