are 19 inch wheels a good idea ?

Ive been lookin around for wheels and the ones i like come in 19's, and i wanna know if anybody here has 19's and is the ride ok or does it feel like the damn tire is gonna pop evertime you hit a bump ? Or even 18's.

Re: are 19 inch wheels a good idea ?

i have 18s and i love them. i was gonna get 19s but around here its not worth it. i live in texas (kinda in the country) and the highways are fine but the other roads are pretty bad so i didn't wanna risk it. plus a few people told me that the tires for 19s wear out so fast that its only worth it to have them if its practically a show car (i don't know how true this is but the guys that said it seemed reliable enough) and of course tires aren't exactly cheap. but hey man if you like em then go for it.

Re: are 19 inch wheels a good idea ?

I have 18s and there is good and bad points...

The good:
1) steering becomes telepathic
2) they look good
3) it's easier to check on your brakes

The bad:
1) It's a lot of rotating mass
2) curb rash
3) tires get expensive rather quickly

Re: are 19 inch wheels a good idea ?

yea, def. watch out for the curbs. also with 19s u pretty much lose some acceleration. like in my car i can barely even get a spin on a wet road. but i think with bigger rims my car steers better.

but my tires have some wear on them an i have put about 10k miles on em. i think i can still get another 10 out of them. but try to get tires with high tread, cuz even when mine were brand new i only had maybe a quarter inch of tread.

Re: are 19 inch wheels a good idea ?

Yeah 2old brought up some good points. Also don't forget traction...dry conditions, the larger the better. But in rain and snow, smaller skinner tires are better. I personally think 17s are the ideal size when everything is considered. I am not attracted to the idea of going larger than 18s, but if you want to...why not.

with the 19's , are you using those low profile tires or regular ones..........if they even fit ?
