WIP: 550 Maranello - Azzurro California

Hi, all. Another one to add to the number of in-progress 550 Maranellos.

I decided to make this a quick build and didn't correct several flaws on the body and will not spend much time correcting interior either. In the future I will make another one, but only better.

Painted authentic Azzurro California by Glasurit, interior is going to be tan. All comments welcome.

Regards,
Alex

Edit: made the pics smaller

Awesome color! Tan interior would really look great with that color.

Re: WIP: 550 Maranello - Azzurro California

Thanks for kind comments, everyone. I'm in the process of clearcoating this thing as I type (again - I just can't get it right on first attempt). As for the colour, the moment I saw that car in that colour I knew it's the one I'd want mine (or at least a model) to be in as I think it suits the 550 best. My second choice would have been yellow, but it's not a particularly close second

How am I supposed to compete with all these 550's!
That looks fantastic. I love that none of the 550's are in red yet!

Update time

The body has been polished and window trim has been added.

Now some of you might be wondering why there are holes where side repeaters should be. Well, allow me to share my technique of making those side repeaters.

I really don't like such things as turn signals or window washer nozzles molded into the body because they interfere with the painting and polishign process and it's not particularly easy to make them look good and realistic. In contrast, it's quite easy for things to go wrong, and that's why I decided to try a different approach this time. It also has some trick moments, but you won't need to learn those the hard way.

Anyway, I stretched some clear sprue.

This is how it fits the hole.

This is what it looks like sanded to size.

To my surprise, I found that this way it looks very realistic if you need those repeaters to be that semitransparent white type. But as Ferrari uses amber ones, I painted mine.

Now the warning: I thought it would be a good idea to have them friction fit. It wasn't. If you try to force the sprue in, it is quite likely to raise the paint from underneath, and that's exactly what happened to me. Thankfully, it's not TOO noticeable, but next time I won't have them fit so tightly, will compensate for the thickness of transparent orange paint and will be inserting them from the outside fro mthe very beginning.

Two more pics just for good measure

And thanks for all your comments.
Alex
