D16 bore question.

If I bore my D16a6 and bore it to 1.7 with the pistons from the D17a1 work for me? or are they the wrong shape for the valves. I've been looking and can't find pictures of the pistons and i don't want to order any if they are wrong.

Re: D16 bore question.

i wouldnt really trust that since the d17's seem to vary from other D's, valve clearance might be the different, only way to really know is to clay the pistons.

you can get overbore pistons for your stock block.

Re: D16 bore question.

I have a set of d17 pistons right here, they're dished, no valve recesses- well the intake side has two, but they maby 1mm wide by 4mm long and maby 1mm deep.

Re: D16 bore question.

I wasnt saying they would work, I was just saying what they looked like. I believe they also have a shorter compression height, but I'm not possative on that.

Re: D16 bore question.

well the D17a1 is also Non-Vtec, what happened is my timing belt slipped and my block was saved thankfully, it was just lightly scored and so it needs to be bored out, but it would be cheaper for me to bore it and get all new pistons then bore it resleeve it and get a new piston and connecting rod. So i haven't found bigger pistons for the a6 so i like i said, i was wondering since the D17 is the 1.7 liter, if the piston would work.

Re: D16 bore question.

the d17 is a 1.7 due to stroke. nto the pisto nsize. theres many variables you need ot consider on this. but as far as the a6 well you could by high compression piston from the dohc zc or low ocmrpession pistons made for our civics for boost or im sure there other manufacturers out there.

Re: D16 bore question.

There are handfulls of companies that make oversized pistons, honda probably even offers them.

ah that is true, i dunno what i was thinking.

i really don't see a need in using d17 pistons, im sure honda sells a 20 overbore piston for rebuilds, like TSC said.
