89 GM - Transmission engagement delay

When I first start my Grand Marquis and put it in drive the car moves slowly with no gas. When I give it gas it seems to not "go" straight away. It feels like the transmission finally "catches" and then I can accelerate.

I checked the transmission fluid levels - all is OK

Any other ideas? Is there an adjustment to be made or am i experience early failure signs.

Mileage: 105,000

I had the same issue with my 89! It seemed like it was worse in cold temperatures and just like you commented it was with in the first few minutes of driving. I was in the neighborhood of 154,000 miles and my trans worked great and the fluid was in perfect condition. I have no idea either. I always wondered about that! Great post

Cheers!
