Hi, I have been thinking about sound deadening my SUV and I was wondering where I could get some good material. I also wanted to know how good of an upgrade to the sound quality is sound deadening and if I should go with two layers instead of just one? Thanks a lot for your help.

It will make a huge difference on the doors (if your speakers are in the doors), and the more the better. As for everywhere else, the floor and trunk are the best for eliminating road noise, the trunk lid to keep it from rattling, and any other doors you have in your car to help with more road noise. Normally 2 layers would be optimal, and 3-4 layers on the front doors making sure to seal up every hole(again, if you have speakers in the front doors, if not then just the normal 2 for road noise).

Re: Sound Deadening
I'm in the process of painting my interior and as a result I have all my panels off. What I'm doing is buying some expanding foam from Home Depot. It comes in a spray can bottle. I'm gonna put it everywhere. I've heard of this working for other people and it allows you to get in little holes that you can't get into with a sheet. It's also 10x cheaper than conventional sound deadening.

Re: Sound Deadening
And it doesn't solve the same problem either. That may help with some rattles, but that's it. It won't help with mass loading or ambient sound absorbing. The car won't be any quieter with it, but it may have fewer rattles if you put it in the right spots.
