Painting Interior Parts
Hi everybody,
I plan on painting some of my interior parts - mainly the vents and the dash trim - in the near future. Has anyone on this forum done this? Could I just paint over the plastic, or would I be better doing some sanding and using some primer? Any other suggestions? Thanks. |

I would do some sanding and priming.I was thinking of doing some painting but never got around to it.I got that much from the s10forum they have an interior section and lots of good info on how and what.

I wish I still had my 90 s-10. I painted the vents and all the dash plasic trim, Light purple. Came out awesom. I sanded and primered them. If you do that you should have no problems and they will look awesome too.

Re: Painting Interior Parts
Check out the new paints made just for plastic - they're supposed to "bond" with the plastic.

I've done some custom interior painting for people (airbrushed star scapes, pegusus, knights, water, dolphins, the whole nine yards) The bonding paints (the ones that dont' require primer) are awesome, here you need to be careful. One scratch or a pull you have to sand it down and prime the area anyways. (this usually happens when you reinstall trim and dashes. until it's properly cured, it may happen unless you are really careful, or just let it cure for the suggested amount of time, dependign on number of coats and stuff) It's a little more work, sanding and priming is the best adhesion you get to any surface.
