Failed inspection b/c of Sylvania silverstar headlights

Just as the subject says, I failed inspection, last wed., because I had Sylvania Silverstar headlights in my vehicle. The inspection guy held up a white piece of paper in front of the light, and showed me that there was blue in the light and said that I'm not allowed to have that color. "Only cars that came from the factory with lights of that color are allowed." I live in North Carolina, so that may affect the inspection regulations, but the box of my Silverstars says "legal for on road use." I don't have the box, but I was quite sure to check that before I purchased them. Also, the lights themselves have a (DOT ########) on them and I thought that meant they were legal. Am I getting jacked? Or am I really not allowed to have these lights?

I bought some regular headlights for 8 bucks each at autozone because the inspection guy would not listen to me, just so I don't get fined because I'm getting close to my time limit for inspection. I'm going to put my Silverstars back in just after I get it inspected.

i live in ca with the strictest smog regulations in the nation. since when did inspecting the lights become part of smogging your vehicle?

some smog places just like to give customers a hassle. go elsewhere.

for real thats insane I know they test the lights to make sure the bulbs work but because of the kind its not like they arn't common in any car not just modded ones hell my mom has those and she doesn't even know what a crankshaft does.

I could see if you wedged some neon oragne or somthing they were just dicks seek your smog elsewhere

I completely agree. And I'm sure the fact that on the Sylvania box (I check at my local Advace auto parts) it says "legal for on road use" means they are... umm legal for on road use perhaps?

I am going to find out exactly what the DoT here says, then make sure to lodge a complaint with the "Xpress lube" that I went to, and with the DoT for the inspector not being correct or being bias. Gonna check all my bases first, specifically check with the DoT to make sure I'm not wrong.

Yeah they definently say legal for road use on the box. Unfortunately I threw the box out a month ago. But they're not even that blue, they still have a lot of yellow in them. I only know one other person who has them, and everyone else has ones that have a lot more blue (and even purple) in them. Sounds to me like you're getting f'd in the a.

i just want to know how a smog facility will fail you for smog if the lights have nothing to do with smog?

Re: Failed inspection b/c of Sylvania silverstar headlights

He never mentioned anything about smog testing, it's got to be just a regular vehicle inspection.

In North Carolina, you have to pass emissions (OBDII style) and a saftey inspection of the vehicle.
