My brother's 1991 aerostar driver side power window won't go up. No sound nothing when he activates window up button. All other windows work ok. Is this an expensive repair? He is in a belt tightening stage now as his contract job seems to be ending. (He found out when his security badge wouldn't let him into work last week!). Is it possible for him to open up the door panel and close the window manually until he can afford a full repair? He told me it is getting really hot out in northern California where he lives. Any suggestions appreciated.

Try replacing the switch.

It is not a wire! or the switch! It is the power window motor....The drivers side gets used more than any other, and it wears out faster.Call your local auto recycler and ask for a price. It will work and be less than half the price of Ford....

Aerostar power Window wont go up
We can speculate but really you need to go in there and take a look.
Wires, motors and switches can all be tested. Grab a volt meter and a test light preferrably with somebody around who's taken off the door panel before so they know what to take off, pull off, and unscrew to get the complete panel off. Take your time. See if it's gettng +12Volts to the motor. I had the same problem on a 1994 Aerostar and it turned out to be missing the ground connection to the motor, the wire looked intact but it was not providing a good ground I ran a new wire (there was another ground available in the door wiring) and all was fine, no parts required. |
