code 71 on mk3

ok, so i finally pulled the engine check code, and it turned out to be 71, and cygnus x1 site says that its an EGR System Malfunction. how would i go about fixing this?

reset the codes by pulling the fuse, and see if it's an old code. Replace the EGR valve? I have done the same thing and and still get a 71 code. It could be a faulty curcuit. I'm still figuring it out myself. check the cygnus x1 site.
