'99 RAV4 Replace EGR VSV

I need to replace the VSV related to the EGR system on my 199 RAV4. I have the AWD version with 5 speed manual trans. The switch is located on the engine block under the throttle body, above the transfer case, in between the enging and the firewall. I know where it is, but can not physically see it or get a hand on it. How do I remove and replace it? Does the throttle body have to come off? I tried removing the battery tray, and gained a little access from the side, but you must have small hands to get in there. Maybe my 13 year old? Anyway, does anyone have a tip or trick that can help me out?
