I have a 1987 ford ranger, my wife was driving it when it started running rough and then it died, i tried to start it but it wouldn't start, all it would do was turn over. I replaced the distributor cap, rotor button, fuel pump relay, module, coil and fuel filter. Even took the fuel pump off and it seemed ok. So i put some gas in the intake hose and it started but died out very shortly afterwards, I put my hand over the intake hose and it started but died out as soon as i took my hand off, i have no idea on what to do next

Re: 1987 Ranger Will Not Start
When you turn the ignition on, do you hear the fuel pump come on? If so, I'd check the fuel pressure, also pull the vacuum line off the f/p regulator and see if there's any gas in it, if so, it's toast. Then I'd make sure the injectors are getting a pulse from the ecm.
p.s. If I remember correctly there is a fuel cut-off switch under the dash on the passanger side, maybe it got tripped? |
