Question Vortech or Jackson Racing for Supercharger?

Ok, I am currently debating on two brands of superchargers for my '94 Integra GS-R. Either the Vortech Supercharger or the Jackson Racing Supercharger. I heard that the Vortech make much more horsepower than a JRSC and I like that. But this unit is fairly new and I heard some bad things about reliabilty like some bar breaking or something. And then there is the JRSC. I know they have been around for a long time and that...from what i've been hearing so far...that they don't really cause problems in reliabilty. But in turn, make less HP than a Vortech does.

So I am just wondering which is more reliable and best for my GS-R? I want to get a SC that won't break down on me and be able to have a long lasting car. Thanks!

The answer to your question depends on the answer to this question:

What are you using your car for?

If you drag race, or don't care about low end power, then go with the Vortech. If you want the best drivability, then go with the JRSC.

I believe that both kits offer about the same level of durability, so I don't think that is an important factor.

If you want a long lasting car, don't get either of them. You are never going to change the fact that all SC kits I have seen don't come with the proper engine management parts. You can have a forced induction setup that won't affect the life of your car, but it doesn't come it kit form. You have to build it all yourself.

Nothing ever comes easy.

I want my car for mainly for street racing use and for those occasional times I will take it to the drag strip. I think I will go for the JRSC because it gives more lower to mid range power and a better power curve throught the whole powerband. With a Vortech, you will need to wait until the higher RPM's like 7000.

found it the ad is in the May 2002 Sport Compact Car. Vortec does make a blow off valve along with other parts to work with the super charger. The ad is for Land Speed Racing http://www.landspeedracing.com

Instead of spending the extra $1000 - $1500 look at having the JRSC modified for better efficiency and more boost (while maintaining most, if not all, of its reliability.

Last I looked only one place doing this kind of work is ENDYN. Check out http://www.theoldone.com/sc/jackson-upgrade.html for more info. Good Luck...

# 1 Make sure you got good management/tuning for your car. I'd say the cheapest/affordable computer program since you may autoX is to get "HONDATA" you can check it out at their site www.hondata.com I'd say look into the Stage 4 w/boost and pocket programmer
Tell me how it goes.

okay, here's what everyone needs to know about the superchargers

I also went through this whole pro/con thing a while back. I guess i'll give you the facts, then let you know my choice (for however much its worth)

JRSC- has had a car go over 100,000 miles. It's a pretty good way to keep the engine safe. I have heard/seen (even here on AF) people complain because the SC belt breaks, but the belt isnt too costly, and it needs to be replaced about ever 12,000 miles. Of course, the standard fuel system upgrades and such are needed. Again, proper engine management. Its a tad pricey (when compared with a turbo), but does the job. I think on a GSR, it cranks out 208 HP with 157 torque. It has power all throughout the mid band (starting at 1500rpm). I think its carb legal too, correct me if im wrong.

The vortech is different, because it's centrifugal. It spools up, and takes till about 5500 RPM's to really get going. It cranks out 243 and 168 torque. It goes for 3321 from www.vortechsuperchargers.com. Its reliability, i dont know about. not sure if its carb legal, or whatever. (its only a bummer that they dont offer the intercooler like they do for the SI, which gets up to 275 hp or so)...

Either way, you'll get a good deal, but after months of researching, you might be better off building up for a turbo...
hope this helps,

Brandon

Even though everything looks covered, Ill put in my two cents, just because Im bored!

If you want to supercharge, the Jackson Racing charger has a good reputation and will get the job done. As someone suggested you can work the blower to be more effecient and prepped for higher boost. For a long time I was planning to do this, but I have now started researching and shopping for turbos.

Now, turning to the Vortech blower. This one is more like a turbo, that still saps power via a belt driven blower. To me, this makes no sense, if you can tolerate lag and non-linear power delivery, then why not get a turbo? (Which incedentally, if designed properly can deliver more effecient power with little lag.) To top it off, last I checked, this kit is even more expensive than the JRSC, which in itself is already pretty costly.

So if you want a supercharger, I think I would stick with the Jackson Racing blower. Otherwise Id go turbo.

My girlfriend has a D1SC Procharger with a 3-core intercooler on her 2000 Mustang GT. At 10 pounds of boost she cranked out 407 RWHP and about 415 RWTQ. They make some SERIOUS top end. I'd go for the positive displacement on the integra though, as they're already lacking in low-end punch.
