Unhappy Suspension / Springs Noise -

Hi,

I have a 2001 Bora/Jetta.. 2.3 V5 that has done 28000 miles. There is a type of clanging noise with almost a bit of reverberation coming from the driver's side front of the car around where you'd expect the springs I guess. The sound is very loud but only presents itself usually when parking or turning around a sharp corner / doing a U-turn etc. In addition, I have also noticed that car is about 1/2 an inch lower on that front corner (ie the distance between the wheel arch and tyre). These sound like quite specific conditions... but I'm really not mechanically minded in any way, so if anyone could give me an indication of the seriousness of this issue and possible fixes, I'd be most appreciative. I am taking it in to Volkswagen this week to be fixed. Thanks in advance to anyone who can offer any advice!

Aaron

Sounds like a broken coil spring. Take a look inside the wheel well and look at the spring, you should be able to see that it doesn't look right.
