Need 95 Blazer Help Please..

OK, after 3 garages, no one can figure out why my 95 Blazer wont start. Its got a V6 Vortec engine. Sometimes it will start and it runs great when it does, but most of the time it wont start at all. I have had the following done so far... new fuel pump, fuel filter, plug wires (they were arching) clutch fan and radiator flushed (it was running very hot with the air on, this fixed that problem). They checked the crank shaft sensor also. It turns over great, just wont start. I dont know what else to have them try. they said the catalytic convertor was ok too. I am open for any suggestions. mechanics at work said to try sea foam??? Anyone heard of that? I appreciate any help you can give me....Thanks

Did they check fuel pressure?

Did they inspect your CPI injector?

Did they inspect your nut kit?

Re: Need 95 Blazer Help Please..

I've noticed that our Blazers share a common, and frequent problem: leaky fuel pressure regulators. The FPR is a device that lowers the pressure of fuel directed at it by the fuel pump, and sends it through the CPI spider in to your fuel injectors. The original "spider" unit as it's called was defective, and has since been factory redesigned. I had a good deal of trouble finding a replacement fuel pressure regulator and ended up buying a completely new cpi (actually I bought a kit that included the inlet and return lines, gaskets, and o rings to do a full overhaul).

You can refer to this thread for details and pictures:

http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=421956

Basically, you'll need to pull your upper intake plenum off to diagnose your problem. It's an easy job if you have a Haynes manual.

Re: Need 95 Blazer Help Please..

That fuel pressure reading is a bit on the low side. With key in the run/on position but not starting the engine, it should read in the neighborhood of 60-62 PSI for a CPI Blazer Vortec. FIrst thing I would check though would be if the battery is completely charged. A low battery from multiple start attempts can cause weak fuel pressure readings. Make sure too that you are getting a spark from the coil. So, slow-charge that battery overnight at 2 amps and try to get it to fire over, or use a booster battery and cables, check for spark, and see if that helps. If fuel pressure it still too low and you have a spark, I would pull the upper intake to inspect for the regulator, injector, or fuel line leaking before you go and pick up a fuel pump. If it's leaking/spraying gas when you do a key on, no engine start, you found the problem. If it's not leaking, then I would suspect a fuel pump.

We already put 2 new fuel pumps on it. Thought we had a bad one and exchanged it. I just got back from the garage. he said he got mad and hit the computer and it started right up hehee so he found a used one for $37.50 hes going to try tomorrow. I really appreciate all the suggestions, you all are great !!! I am pasting them all on a notepad and asking him about them. So far he said hes tried all but the last post and everything checks out. He said it runs like a new one once it finally starts. I'll let y'all know if the computer replacement works........

Re: Need 95 Blazer Help Please..

It isn't the computer, your CPI injector and nut kit are leaking.

Having a mechanic hitting your computer!!!???

Go to another mechanic NOW

Re: Need 95 Blazer Help Please..

Percussive maintenance only works on computer hard drives. Yes, If I were you KYCowgirl, I would seek help from another shop. I am lucky in that there is a local ACE AC-Delco garage that's pretty reasonable on prices and has up to date certification for all of their mechanics. I suggest that you look for the same if you can and have them go through a list of checks that we have all mentioned. Regardless if you changed your fuel pump, was it changed with an origional AC-Delco part? Aftermarket pumps do not last very long in the high pressure environment needed to run a CPI system. You may have to yank one from a low mileage wreck, or pony up the bucks at the dealership to get the right part.

You better not be paying for him to replace the ECM after he hit it.

If he is trying to do so, I suggest you bring a friend along for backup and not put up with it.

Unfortunately wolfox, I live in a small town in kentucky and mechanics are few and far between. Mostly backyard mechanics who dont haveI have taken it to 3 different shops so far. This last one is in Ohio. The computer thing didnt work either so I am making an appt. at the Chevy dealer in town to check it on their computer. Oh he said he didnt really "hit" the computer, just tapped it. Will let y'all know what happens next and again I appreciate all the advice...........

Re: Need 95 Blazer Help Please..

Do a search for CPI injector here in the Blazer Section, you will get some more information.

Here is my experience with it.:

ok, I'm dyin here The shop called back and said the distributor "WAS" bad, but once they test drove it , it quit again when it got hot, and they said the spider injectors are bad and its going to cost an additional $726.00 to fix those on top of the $267.00 for the distributor. Does this sound right or am I getting soaked????
