Headliner is getting in my hair
I went down to see how much it would cost to get my headliner fixed/replaced whatever and they told me it would be $200 bucks. Well as I have mentioned my car is a piece. So I told them I saw some stuff on the internet that would give me new cloth and some stuff to stick it on there for 35 bucks. Then they told me that stuff never works. Said they give it 2 months of driving with the windows open till it just went back to touching and tickling the heads of me and anyone who is unfortunate enough to be riding with me. What I wanna know is. Is that true? I have a high suspicion that it isnt. Ive seen some serious adhesives in my time and I find it hard to beleave that some cloth will be a huge problem to keep stuck down. I just want it to look normal
Anyone know anything about this? |

Re: Headliner is getting in my hair
with your old headliner the adhesives are not the problem. Its the foam backing on the cloth itsself that is baking out with the heat of summers and good old father time turning it to a fine dust.
I would say that the headliner kists from year one are of good quality and will / should last as long or longer than the original. This is what i am going to replace the headliner with on a project car that i'm working to restore when i get to that stage of the project. |

Re: Headliner is getting in my hair
I had that problem in my '78 Camaro about twelve years ago. I bought the best of best adhesive out there for the time and it didn't work for nothing. CamaroRS92 is exactly right on both counts. I have had one of their headliners ever since and it still looks like new. Only I paid $110 back then. And they say inflation is low - BS. If your car is a piece, go with that. Just rip that sucker out and be at peace with it. Leave the cardboard or whatever. It dampens down road noise and has some insulation value in the winter.
-Have fun. |
