Fuel gauge pegged full after fill up
I filled my 01 Grand Prix GT and the needle has not moved off the peg on the full side. I've driven 45 miles since the fill up, so it should have fallin some. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks, ted

Re: Fuel gauge pegged full after fill up
Many things could be wrong here, Starting with your float it could be stuck al the way up. The resistor connected to the float could be shot. Wiring in between the resistor and the gauge. I would suggest driving for a while to see if it fixes it self though. Hope I help ST

Re: Re: Fuel gauge pegged full after fill up
My GT is doing the same thing right now. I'm trying to find out what it could be. Let me know if you find something.

Re: Fuel gauge pegged full after fill up
did you overfill the tank by topping off? If so, it may take a while for the guage to move.

Re: Re: Fuel gauge pegged full after fill up
My GT has 140,000miles. After fill up it pegges and stays full. Once in a while after driving for at least 100 miles it pegs empty. I was able to find the access door the the fuel sender unit. It's in the trunk behind the seat. If you pull back the carpet in the trunk you will find it there. There are about 10 small nuts that you'll have to take out. I don't recall how many there are on the nuts. You'll know it when you see it. There's going to be two connector, 3-wire and a 4-wire. I was told that the 3-wire is for the pressure sensor. I believe the 4-wire is what we are looking at to send the information to the Instrument Cluster. If there's something wrong with the float, I suppose that where it can be replaced/access. It's pretty costly to replace the fuel sender. I may just deal with it and monitor my miles and gas.
