Headlights acting up

2 weeks ago i bought a 93 Firebird Formula with the 5.7 LT1 Engine. Since then i've been finding more and more hints within the car telling me that this guy was a damn hack.

I've never had a problem with the headlights, but the other day I brought them up (engine off) and all of the sudden they wouldn't go up or down. The lights turn on and off but no motion. Here's the fun part, every time I start the car (headlight switch in off position mind you) the headlights go up. After that they wont do a thing. If they're up when i start the car, they stay as is once started. Does anyone have any idea whats going on and do you have any suggestions on how to locate and solve the problem?

Dear Cessna911,
i have a 99 firebird and I am having similiar problems.
have you gotten any answers for your problem?
my headlights will work but I had to disable them and just leave them popped up. the motor is still working and one guy who works on motors told me the geear might just be stripped. So I would have to take the motors out and have thme looked but I haven't done this yet.
I had an 84 firebird for 16 years and never had any trouble with the headlights.
I see firebirds all the time with the headlights up so I don't know if it is just certain years they had trouble with or what.
e-mail me at [email protected] and in subject box type firebird please.

Gen 3 had problems with the bushings in the headlight gearbox. Gen 4 has a problem with the gear itself. There's another post on here about headlight problems with a link for upgrade gears.
