1st Gen LT1?
Does anyone know the specs on the 1st gen LT1? How bad are they on gas? 2 bolt or 4? Any info is appreciated.

If by first gen you mean original 70s LT1 from the Corvette, they are very strong engines... I'm pretty sure all LT1s are 4 bolt mains, and they make 370hp...
The LT1 had all sorts of goodies like solid lifters and stuff, mechanical advance... the like. You need an engine that'll get through the winter though, so I'd recommend a 90s LT1, just for the driveability. It's no chore to get as much or more power out of a modern LT1 or LT4, but they'll do it much more pleasantly.

 I agree that the new one would be better but I need to find something that is cheap to buy too. |

1970 was the first year for the LT1 I think, and it made 370 hp.. '71 made 330hp, and '72 made 275hp
 Your best bet would be a fuelly motor, thats for sure... you're up here in the great white north, right?

Yeah, it must be getting pretty chilly out there
 When you look at total costs, you could probably get a fairly low mileage fuelly engine out of a wreckers yard, for as much, or less than getting a good running older engine, and having to rebuild it. If this was California, I'd recommend a carbed engine because they're cheaper, but you're in Ottawa, and it gets pretty cold in Ontario... The fuelly motor is worth it, because of the warming up period alone, before you even get into fuel economy, driveability etc...
