I need help trying to find out how to remove my rear door panel that is on the gate. I need to replace the actuator and I do not know how to get that off. Any ideas?

Re: Rear panel Removal

First off, have you checked the wiring and the fuses?

Re: Rear panel Removal

While pushing the rear release button, push in firmly on the window handle to see if it will come loose.

No go. It won't budge. I can push on the handle, pull on the handle, pull while pushing the actuator, push while i push the actuator, jiggle it, kick it from the inside; all the same results: not coming out at all. Now i can hear the actuator clicking, it just doesnt sound the same as it used to. When it worked, the sound it made had a heavy/metal sound to it that you recognize. It's hard to explain, but u know the sound. Now, it sounds just pure electrical, and lasts for about a second. Sounding like it is trying, but just can't do it. That brings me to replacing the actuator, if i could only get to it. There has to be a way to open that thing up from the inside. Please help, it's about to the point of having the shop charge me an ungodly amount for such a little problem.

Put tailgate down

Remove phillips head screw on either side of plastic cover. Now lift the front of the cover firmly (it's held on by clips) Do not lift up more than 2 or 3 inches. Now pull the cover towards you. Set aside. Now remove then 15 7mm screws around the deck cover. Install in reverse.

Is there any way i can do it without lowering the tailgate down? Because i can't seem to lower it without opening the window. And I can't open the window, that is what i'm trying to fix.
Thanks though. I appreciate the response.

What year s10 are you talking about? If its an 84 to 94, heres how you do it. Climb in to the rear cargo area. There is a little opening for the latch in the plastic panel. You will be able to see the the clasp that is holding the u shaped bracket that is attached to the window. Right under the clasp there is a lock that is stopping the clasp from opening. You have to take a long flat head screw driver and move that lock out of the way. The clasp will then open and you will be able to opwn the window. With the window open you can put the gate down and open it up to see why it is not working.

It's a 99. On the exterior, all that is there is the round button to activate the electrical release. On the inside, there is the handle that releases the tailgate portion once the glass gate is open.
