encounter with... something you don't see every day

After work today, I decided to head down to the shop where my dad has stuff done on his Lotus to see about some bodywork for the mr2. Yes, I have a suprise coming with the car

Anyway, after chatting for about an hour, I help move a 510 race car out of the way to get a newly regeared 427 cobra out of the shop. The owner decided to change the gearing in the rear end in an attempt to keep the tires from spinning at half throttle in 3rd gear. It worked. The last time i was in a car that accelerated like this... it was a GT40 and on a race track. This Cobra was SICK! My neck actually hurt from the acceleration... which according to trying to count in my head, as well as asking... was like 3 seconds. FLAT.

The cobras engine dyno'd at ~450hp and 460 ft/lbs and the car weighs slightly more than my mr2...

I'm really looking forward to my next round of mods which should bring the car into the 400-420 hp range. Needless to say, I'm not so sure this is a good idea anymore... but at the same time i'm once again aware of what "fast" feels like...

oh yeah, so the funny story.

On the test drive, a riced out late 90's mustang GT goes by... with loud exhaust. Driver gawks. Cobra lights up tires at 40. Mustang fears for life. Yours truly smiles for the next 4 hours.

Um...are we talking the 67 427 cobra....shelby right..? If so, that's my favorite car hands down..

Nothing like raw power with no fat....unlike the new mustangs that weigh like 7000lbs and have under 400hp.....

Re: encounter with... something you don't see every day

My uncle just bought a replica '65 cobra with a 427 in it. The thing is a monster. He took me for a ride and even only at a quarter throttle it threw me back in my seat and held me there harder than any car I've been in.

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.
