Question Battery Drain??

I Have a 99 Chevy Silverado I bought about 2 years ago. I installed my amp and subwoofers around the same time I bought the truck. Everything has worked just fine until last night my subwoofers quit working. With the radio off my voltage meter reads fine, right at 14...when I turn my radio on now my meter immediately drops to the notch between 9 and 14, but the power light on amp isnt on. Also I noticed my amp and power and ground wires become quite warm in a very short period of time. All fuses are fine. I had battery and alternater checked at auto parts store and they came up fine. I disconnected my amplifier power wire from battery and has resolved problem for now. If anybody has any info it would be greaty appreciated. The only thing I can think caused this was the day before I gave a friend a jump not paying attention and initially I hooked the cables backwards on his car. Melted the cables but no damage to either vechicle physically. Bought new cables and car jumped fine.

Please Help!

Re: Battery Drain??

It's possible by hooking the cables up backwards that you fried something in the amp that was causing it to short and go full load or something like that.

Boy, are you lucky you didn't take out anything on your ride. I can't imagine what kinda damage that could have caused.... Try a different Amp if you have access to another one and see if the same result occurs.

sounds like you toasted the amp , pay to get it fixed or buy a new one.

Make sure it has a solid ground. Other wise time for a new amp Id say.

Re: Battery Drain??

Buy a cheap amp at WalMart (200W for $50 last I was looking at their cheap stuff) and try it out. They have a pretty relaxed return policy. If it works, you know you fried your amp. If not, return it and look elsewhere for the problem.
