Question Shift Faster

Hey all,

I've been driving and Im not liking the way it's been shifting lately. I've got the short shifter and plastic shifter mounts. But, when shifting, it doesnt fall into gear like it should. I've been grinding into second when shifting fast. Also, i miss 3rd if Im really shifting fast. IDK what the problem is. Shifter fluid? Anything else?

Re: Shift Faster

maby your linkage is bad??

or somthings wrong with your tranny?

i know that it always feels like im hitting an extra "bump" on the way into a gear when i shift so even when im shifting fast and hard i still cant shift quiet as quick as i should be able to.

Re: Shift Faster

my guess is that you will be in the market for a tranny here pretty soon. mitsu trannies dont like powershifting/shifting very quickly.

Re: Shift Faster

I think (at least on the turbo cars) that the clutch pedal can be adjusted because it doesn''t always fully engage. It's on VFAQ or tuners or dsm.org or something.

Re: Shift Faster

check your clutch fluid to make sure its disengaging the clutch the whole way. also make sure your pushing the clutch in far enough thats usually my problem when i try to shift fast.

PS sorry about the pics. i have them on a cd that i can still send you but they turned out really blurry and shittylike.

Re: Shift Faster

Ahh, its all good.

Yeah, cluytch is going all the way.

Now, I have the worlds fluffiest clutch. Some poeple like, others dont. You dont know when its disengaged when pressing the clutch. It's super soft. I think that's my problem. Can I fix that. Seriously, I can push it down with 2 fingers, all the way to the floor. I've driven my boys STi, and that shit is stiff. I think tha's the problem.

Re: Shift Faster

sounds like either your slave or master cylinder is bad.

Re: Shift Faster

So, what exactly are we talking about then with the slave and master? How can I find out? Does it make the clutch soft?

Re: Shift Faster

And after reading this thread I now know how people die in bath tubs with hair driers.

You people are so misguided.

How would a gear grind be a master or slave cyl?

Shifter fluid? OMG (Remember to breath in between breaths.)

stronger clutch and fly wheel? Are you potty trained too? Jesus.

Re: Shift Faster

master or slave would be because when they dies they usually leak fluid and make it so when you press the clutch down all the way it is really only disengaging the clutch about halfway.

basily your clutch system is like this
you press the pedal
this pushes a rod into the master (or pulls it out i forget but it doesnt matter)
the master sends fluid through the lines to the slave
the slave rod pushes out against the clutch fork
the clutch fork is on a pivot so the other end pushes against the throwout bearing which is against the clutch pressure plate.

Re: Shift Faster

i have the same exact problem, my clutch is very soft, i dont think i can push it in with two fingers though, but i have replaced, Clutch master cylinder, clutch fluid lines, slave cylinder, and i have a new clutch and fork (b/c one of the fork rods "broke" supposedly at least thats what they told me). thats preaty much everything that you can replace on a clutch lol and my clutch it still soft, i dont really think there is much you can do about it except for adjust it, if you have the same problem, b/c i thought it was my clutch master cylinder also and i turned out it wasnt at all, and its like 90 dollars, so thats money down the drain, but i SHOULDNT have to replace it again, so if any one needs a clutch master cylinder, or slave cylinder that both work fine (my old ones) let me know

Re: Shift Faster

make sure they bleed it well. 2g's have trouble sometimes getting all the air out and that will make a soft pedal too
