B16A RPM Correct?

Just drove my B16A for the first time today - at about 70mph in 5th gear I'm at about 4000 RPM. I know that B16As are tightly wound little engines, does this sound normal?

oh yeah, I'm supposed to break the engine in for the first 1000 miles - can't go past 4000 RPM. Eh.. no VTEC yet! =(

seems a lil high to me, i know in third gear on my DX motor at 70, im at 4000rpm, so 5th on the b16 should prolly be in the mid 3's if you ask me.

Seems high to me too, but the redline is higher than what I'm used to...

Also, I'm still using my HF exhaust (yeah, I know - I'm getting a new one this month) - would that affect this at all?

Where's Moppie? He'll know...

My SiR has the Y1 tranny - if you're running it too then 4000-4100 in 5th should be the RPM for 110km/h (70mph).

That's what mine does on freeway trips between Sydney and Melbourne where the speed limit is 110.

B16A from an Integra xsi - I'm pretty sure that's a Y1 tranny...?

Yup, that's about where I'm at.

I think that the XSi had a S1 tranny - don't quote me on it though as it's 1.30 in the morning

Very similar ratios though.

Ok, how do I check what tranny I have?

How does the gear ratio differ from Y1 and S1?

Its stamped on the gearbox. (and its not a fucken tranny, a tranny is slang for a transexual, or slang for an automatic. ITS A GEARBOX!)

The ratios differ only slightly. But the S1 has shorter 1-3 and shorter final drive.

Actually, I don't have a gearbox. There's a transexual under the car doing the gear changing for me...

ok, that was bad. I sleep now.
