Angry Tunnel Brace for 98 Z28

As for any suspension or chassis parts stronger is always better. I bought a Spohn Tunnel Brace for my camaro and the thing takes away 2-3" from ground clearance. The car is already low enough as it is at stock ride height. I've grinded this thing on the streets so many times, when I hit a dip the car will crouch and the brace scrapes. Once so bad with passengers in my car they were scared the floor was gonna drop out It was pretty loud and hard. Now I don't even know if this thing is worth having if it keeps scraping the ground like such, but it's gotta be better than the stock brace which seemed twisted and flimsy when I took it off. I guess my question is I want to fabricate one myself but don't know what kind of material to use. The one I have now is tubular welded onto 1/4" mounting plates. The tube is bent down for clearance around the exhaust pipe but it is uneccessary. I'm thinking of just grinding the welds for the tube and welding a 5/16" piece of steel across the plates. Or is there something stronger? Any Ideas?

The stock brace is stamped out of a thin piece of steel, maybe 1/16" thick.

It seems like every other company (BMR, LM, etc.) have the same type of design that takes away a lot of clearance. So that is out of the question.

Re: Tunnel Brace for 98 Z28

Well, why didn't you go with a Spohn driveshaft loop instead. Guarantees no clearance loss at all. It would be doing the same job as the tunnel brace does, just has the extra driveshaft loop for safety.
