Jerky Idling on 96 cavalier

My car has been running in perfect condition ever since I purchased it several years ago... however, just yesterday, the oil light came on (because I hadn't changed it in a while) and ever since then, the car idles very unevenly, and the rpm fluctuates several hundred rpm everytime I hit 45mph.

I had the oil changed, and the oil light indicator is no longer there, but the idling is still bad.

I was advised to remove the positive power from the battery, reset the warning indicators because this is apparently an electrical problem...not an engine/tranny problem.

I haven't tried this yet....but does this sound like good information?

Is this an electrical problem? Especially considering that it happened so spontaneously.

(sorry, my knowledge in cars is terrible)

Lemme know. Thanks.
