98 s-10 break lights wont go off
Hi my s-10 2.2L 5-speed is driving me bonkers... 1st the tail lights will not go off sometimes, this is not a problem due to the dtrl but im not shure. I have replaced the break light switch on the break pettle but to no avale. The lights have to be tied to the break system though because the tail lights do not get any brighter when the break pettle is pushed. Also the cab mounted break light comes on only when the break pettle is pushed it does not seem to be affected at all.
PLZ help my battery has already been run dead as a hammer because of this. |

Re: 98 s-10 break lights wont go off
is it tale lights on or break, and if its tale lights, it sounds like bad connection to tail lights, the third break light only works when break peddle is pushed, and it seams like the break lights dont work and running lights are alwase on... check power connection and switches

every thing works sometimes it just takes spells that the two tail lights will not go off. no fuses blow.i think it has to do with the light sensor or a wire has rubbed a positive wire and bypassing a switch somewhere. other than that i'm clueless. i would like to know where to start troubleshooting......thanks for the help

a good place to start is to trace the wires from the tail lights back see if there is anything frayed causing a ground

See if you can get a wiring diagram for your trucks brake lights. I believe that the brake lights are wired through the turn signal switch. The wires from the brake switch on the pedal go to the 3rd brake light and to the turn signal switch to use the turn signl circuit for lighting the lower brake lamps. So the 3rd brake light is on a different circuit than the regular brake lights. You probably have a trun signal switch going bad. That happens alot on GM cars and trucks. I would check it out first.
