Fuel injector cleaning

Hey there, this is pretty much just a new thread about what I was asking in a previous one, so I figured I'd keep them seperate. Anyway, here is my question...
I went and found the 3m fuel injector cleaner that someone suggested. However, they said the kit for it would cost me around 400 bucks? Yet, of course, the can only costs about 18 bucks... blah, Seems a bit crazy, so I was just wondering if anyone has made any homemade jobs and all that, and could make any suggestions...
Also, would you think that a simple air conditioning recharge thing would work good? I don't know whether or not it would fit onto the can, but there would be no way to regulate the pressure... Not really sure if that matters that much, but figured I'd ask anyway.

I figure I would need the following:
1. 2 high pressure fuel hose, about a foot in length.
2. A pressure gauge
3. A valve to regulate the pressure (assuming it would probably be somewhere before the pressure gauge, and probably right)
4. Some sort of valve stem to puncture the can and allow the contents of the can to flow into the fuel hose.
5. Last but not least, an adapter to fit into the fuel rail.

Any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated.

Not rocket science

Injection cleanning is not hard. People will tell you that the stuff you add to gas won't work. Don't listen to them. It will work even to the point where the engine hardly runs. If the injectors are really bad it will take longer(much longer). Two products which will do the job or gum out and Techron. Techron is stronger and will work quicker but the gum out stuff got an audi running that everyone laughted when I bought but I got another 100,000 out of. It took about 7 tanks of treated gas for the audi but it worked. Sometimes the slow easy way is best.

Re: Fuel injector cleaning

You could ask this in the cars in general section...under advanced/technical/enginnering

Or you could just remove them and send them out to be cleaned and flow tested.

Re: Fuel injector cleaning

Well, actually, if your talking about putting it straight into the gas tank, couldn't I also hook up the vacuum lines that go into the intake manifold and have it suck on the fuel injector cleaner to clean them out?

Re: Fuel injector cleaning

That was probably me that suggested the 3M can, I like that stuff. I wondered if you could just buy the parts you need without getting the whole kit.

You are right, that's about what I paid for the fuel injection service setup I used to have, but it covered most makes/models. Occaisionally I'd have to buy an adapter or something for a new design, but 90% of them used the same setup. So I didn't see why you couldn't get the standard adapter and hose, but it seems you can't from what you found out.

You don't have to regulate it, when you do the service with the kit you disable both the fuel pump and the regulator, it just runs can pressure through them. I don't know, but I'd guess it's no more than about 60 psi. That's about the high range of what's required to open injectors. Most operate lower.

I never considered building a rig, but if you could get past tapping the can without leakage, the rest is a no-brainer. The pro setup looks like nothing more that a suicide hose setup for A/C charging, you're right. There is a on/off lever on the can tap.

Re: Fuel injector cleaning

Here's the kit, not much to it.

You can get it as low as about $250 from online places, still a lot.
