All electrical shut down

Have a 98 Rodeo and while we were driving down the highway yesterday, all the electrical systems on the car shut down (speedometer, lights, radio, etc.). Then all the electrical gages were bouncing all over the place with ABS light and Airbag lights came on and the Rodeo started to ride a bit rough like it didn't have all its power. We pulled off at the nearest exit and after a couple minutes, all the electronics came back up so we decided to head down the road. After a couple miles everything shut down again and the car was riding rough again. After having it towed to a local mechanic, he couldn't find the problem so we having the Rodeo towed to a Isuzu dealership tomorrow. Sounds like we may have problem with electrical or alternator. Any thoughts from anyone would be appreciated.

Thanks !!

i agree with your assumption that you are having problems with alternator and/or an electrical short of somekind.

kinda sounds like a short to the alternator... maybe the power wire to the alternator is faulty or is getting shorted somehow when driving the vehicle.

i know it's not much help but it seems as though you're on the right path.

good luck.
