92 Blazer, oil smells like gas

(1992 S-10 Blazer LS, W series engine)

Ok, here is my problem: I'm getting horrible gas mileage, the vehicle smells as if it's running rather rich, and, my oil smells of gas.

Here is what I have now done to the damn thing: New plugs (properly gapped), wires, distributor cap, fuel filter, air filter, TPS, cleaned IAC, checked EGR, the timing has been set properly. Just last week I had the CPI unit and fuel lines replaced under the plenum. Then I had the engine flushed and oil changed.

I thought all was fine and dandy. I was sitting at half a tank (and just under 40 miles to show for it) after the repairs. Now, a week later, I'm sitting at a quarter tank, with 80 miles logged (which is admittedly a bit better but still crap). On a whim I checked my oil again today, and it still smells of gas. Not as badly as before, but it's definitely a gassy smell.

I honestly have no idea WTF it could be now. I'm kinda hoping that some of you might.

Well my Blazer gets some bad gas milage too. Usually I get about 275 miles on 19 gallons. That is roughly 14 MPG on the interstate. I consider that freakin pathetic for a V6 but you getting 80 miles on 3/4 of a tank, now that is bad. If your oil smells like gas it could be that you have a cracked block and the gas is getthing threw to the oil. I don't know from experiance cept that when I busted a head gasket on another car of mine it spit water out the tail pipe. On the other hand it could just be a sensor. There is some kind of sensor just before the converter on your exaust that costs like $120. I had to replace mine after I opened my hood one day and thick white smoke came roaring out of my hood. It only did it for a few mins but I took it in and the dude told me that it was the sensor and my converter was stoped up. I beat the guts out of the converter and replaced the sensor and now it runs like new, cept my freakin service engine light hasn't ever gone off since then even when I reset it. Anyhow, that sensor and one on the other side of the converter control the gas/air mixture. If the converter is stoped up it will make it very rich because it thinks its not getting enough gas. Because mine was stoped up it kept getting blazing hot and damaged the other sensor so I had to replace it. I don't know if any of this is of help but it wouldn't hurt to check into it.

Re: 92 Blazer, oil smells like gas

search "CPI injector" and then serach for "nut kit".

Here is probably your cause.

As I mentioned, I had the CPI and nut kit replaced with new ones last week. So I do not believe that that is the case anymore.

Have you had the oil changed since then?

If you haven't you should ASAP.

Yes of course. I had the engine flushed and the oil changed the minute I picked it up from my mechanic.

I would honestly take a look at there installation again, something might have not been changed as you think.

That is the only way large amount of gas can get into the oil like that.

Also, maybe replace your PCV valve.

PCV valve has been replaced, and I know that they changed out the old parts, because I got the old parts from them. =\

Regardless, you having gas in your oil means something is not right. Take it back to who you had install it and have them check it.
